UNCW employee charged for having child pornography

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A UNCW employee has been arrested and charged with several counts of child pornography.

This summer a UNCW electronics technician was arrested and charged after an investigation from the NC Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce.

In August, the Pender County Sheriffs Office arrested and charged 41-year-old Harvey Darrell Porter with six counts of second-degree exploitation of a minor after child pornography was found on his computer. Porter was employed with the university since 1996 and worked within the department of business affairs as the primary contact for hardware support.

The Pender County Sheriff's Office worked alongside the SBI and the North Carolina ICAC Taskforce in making the arrest.

According to a UNCW spokeswoman, the university issued a dismissal notice to Harvey Porter on Sept. 14 due to unacceptable personal conduct. The dismissal was effective immediately.
