Distinguished WWII veteran mourned

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Family and friends paid final respects today to a distinguished World War II veteran. Morton Salk of Wilmington died Saturday. He was 93.

Salk began his military career with the Army Air Corp. We profiled him last year as friends pushed for Salk to get a Medal of Honor for landing a damaged plane after the pilot was killed and the co-pilot injured.

Salk will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
