UPDATE: Death of elderly woman ruled a homicide


BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- The death of an elderly woman in the Longwood community has now been ruled a homicide.

A relative called Brunswick County Deputies to check on Linnie Mae Ward Tuesday night. The 86-year-old was found unresponsive when deputies arrived on scene.

After further investigation by detectives, an autopsy was requested to determine if foul play may have been a factor. The autopsy report revealed that the death is a result of blunt force trauma and other injuries.

This is now considered a homicide investigation. Sheriff Ingram is offering a reward from the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office and has requested a Governor's reward for information leading to an arrest.
