No Smiley did not move any funds I believe she didn't contribute the states contribution. The state employees groups sued and won. BTW this is the MAIN reason for others states shortfalls - the government fails to keep their part of the bargain (If you can call it that). What people fail to realize that these so called "deals" are negotiated by both parties. Republicans LOVE to say they didn't give a pay raise but will gladly say they added more to the state pension fund as "an alternative". Now the bill is coming due and both Republican and Democrats alike are scrambling to make up for their predecessors botched deals.
As for unemployment? It's not the time to cut that back. I would wait until the UI number drops to abut 6.5% nationwide. What money those folks get they are spending as far as I know so its a good thing.
The interesting thing will be the fiscal cliff. The GOP has no leg to stand on and the Dems certainly don't have a mandate of any kind - and the bad thing is means testing for Medicaid and raising the retirement age to 68 would help everyone and THEN allow the GOP to consider raising revenues.
But we're talking politicians here so I expect very little....from The Prez, McCrory, the state legislature and local politicians.....
Tom-
