Choosing your lucky lotto numbers

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Whether it's your date of birth, an old jersey number or just a guess, lottery players say there is a method to their madness.

During one six-hour window Wednesday the Wrightsville Country Store in Wilmington sold close to 450 Powerball.

"It was crazy all day, man. Like non-stop business," store clerk Alex Damrah said. "People came in like three times already to buy Powerball tickets trying to chase the dream of being a millionaire."

While many let the computers do the thinking for them, some people get personal with their picks.

"I picked one of my own," Bruce Comeau said. "It's my niece, my nephew, my age, my wife's age and my anniversary."

With $550 million on the line some players say they decided to switch up their strategy and take a risk.

"I usually let the computer pick and do the quick pick, so this time I decided to go with my own instinct, and I picked my daughter's age. My daughter will be two this year," Ronald Evans said. "My birthday is the 27th of December, and then just some random birth dates and age numbers."

In the end, the best selection were the folks in Missouri and Arizona who picked the winning numbers: 5, 16, 22, 23, 29 and the Powerball 6.
