WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A fire in Wilmington last night killed a family pet and caused significant damage to the home. The Wilmington Fire Department says crews responded to the home at 725 Ivey Circle around 11:30 p.m. Firefighters contained the fire to a bedroom and bathroom and had it out within minutes, but there is smoke damage throughout the house. Damage estimates for structure and contents are $50,000. The family was not home when the fire started, but their dog died in the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the family. The fire investigator determined the cause was accidental and was electrical.
