Some inaccuracies with this story ... The BHI dredging is not a beach re nourishment project; it is a project required to keep the shipping channel open -- that channel is unsafe and if allowed to get worse it will shut down container traffic to Wilmington which will hurt the entire area. This is a fundamentally different type of project than the beach nourishment projects at Kure, Carolina Beach or even Topsail. Also it doesn't make sense to call attention to federal funding here ... It is a federal shipping channel that they committed to maintain. The inlet at the mouth of the Cape Fear is a totally unique situation that has economic impacts through out the region.
