Marine charged after Morehead City hotel evacuated

READ MORE:

MOREHEAD CITY, NC (AP) -- A Camp Lejeune Marine has been arrested after a hotel in Morehead City was evacuated for about five hours.

Morehead City police and fire officials evacuated the hotel and two nearby restaurants Monday morning after getting a report that someone had threatened to commit suicide using chlorine.

Maj. Garland Terry says someone contacted Onslow County 911 dispatchers, who relayed the threat to Morehead City. Terry says 20-year-old William Edward O'Brian was not in the hotel when they arrived, though he had spent the night there.

He was arrested by Craven County sheriff's deputies.

O'Brian is charged with damage to property, possession of a synthetic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with a fire suppression system.

His rank was not immediately available. It was unclear if he has an attorney.
