For years I have bought gifts for the Angel Tree recipients but have become disillusioned the last few years with the requests for $50 X-Box games, cell phone and laptop accessories, designer clothing labels, etc. There is a big difference between needs and wants and people give because they want to help. But when hard-working people open their pocketbooks to provide luxury items rather than necessities to these needy families, I think we're sending the wrong message. An X-Box game won't help a hungry child or help him do better in school. Yes, Christmas is a special time for children but I think there needs to be a balance in the giving, with more emphasis on practicality.
