CFPUA reports 2,400-gallon sewage spill

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority says crews responded to and repaired a spill from the sanitary sewer system yesterday. Approximately 2,400 gallons was discharged, which flowed directly into the City of Wilmington Storm Drain system and then into the Cape Fear River.

CFPUA says the incident was reported at 9:40 a.m. The spill was stopped at 11:40 a.m.

The spill occurred from a cleanout in the roadway in the 400 block of Harnett St. The spill was caused by a failure of a water line located in the wall of a sanitary sewer manhole located in the intersection of 4th and Harnett.

Routing the water line around the manhole has permanently repaired of the condition.
