Funny, because when I voted in favor of the last school bond referendum, we were promised new elementary and middle schools would be built to alleviate the overcrowding in the Market St/Ogden area schools. The Board then used that money to purchase land all the way in Castle Hayne (in an industrial zone next to a remediated toxic superfund site). School board and school dept officials all claimed that there was no affordable dry land in the Porter's Neck area for the 2 new schools, hence the decision to build in Castle Hayne. Fast forward a few years and now, apparently there is land available in the PN area to build (at least) a new elementary school? My guess is the school board already has a site picked out off Hwy 421 near the landfill and that's where the new school will be located....just saying these folks talk out of both sides of their mouths.
