So by admitting you made a 'dumb mistake' you are basically admitting that you're guilty of these charges? And how is any of this a 'mistake'? Are you going to stand up in court and say 'oh it was all a huge mistake, I sold those drugs to the undercover informant by accident!!' Not sure what 'spin' you think the media is putting on your situation, as it appears to me that they're just reporting the facts!
