WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- What were once bare headstones had a holiday make-over this weekend at the Wilmington National Cemetery. Veterans and supporters attended a "Wreaths Across America Ceremony" where they showed respect for fallen and forgotten soldiers. Though everyone was pleased with the turnout, one veteran wishes the military had as much support.
"In my day, there was a draft on," says Kenneth Pike a US Army veteran. "So we were all obligated to serve, but some of us volunteered and stayed on longer than the minimum time. It was just what young men were expected to do in those days."
After the ceremony. Everyone was invited to lay the wreaths upon the graves of known and unknown soldiers.
