First of all a assault rifle ban won't do a thing to keep dangerous guns out of the hands of dangerous or angry people's hands. A typical deer or bear rifle used all over the United States and certainly around the Wilmington area use 7.62 ammo or equivalent. A bold action magazine fed rifle can fire just as fast and be even more powerful and do more damage than a assault rifle can do.
When it comes down to a assault rifle ban, it won't do the public a bit of good. Semi automatic shotguns firing buckshot or slug rounds can do way more damage to an individual than an assault rifle can and fire just as fast depending on the individuals shooting skills just as they would be for an assault rifle.
If society wants some sort of control on assault rifles they need to put it on all firearms. A form of control would be the same requirement of a permit issued by law enforcement just as pistols are.
