WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- In the wake of last week's school shooting in Connecticut, the New Hanover County School Board has called a special work session tonight to discuss school safety.
Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous and New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon are expected to participate in the discussion.
One parent we spoke with says schools can do more to keep kids safe.
"I think more law enforcement patrolling, possibly even metal detectors, would definitely help out," Valerie Davis said.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting tonight. It starts at 7 p.m. at the Board of Education building on South 13th Street.
