every study I have seen has one common thought. Raise the taxes as high as you wish. That alone will not fix the problem. There have to be significant spending cuts. Start with the giveaway programs such as free cell phones -- right there is $300 million annually.
Let January 1 come and go without a plan; and spending cuts hit across the specter of government. Even Medicare payment levels to providers get cut to the tune of 27%, I believe. Those long term unemployment benefits for the chronic unemployed end.
It amazes me, with all the focus, that no one mentions Geitner's ace in the hole. He has the authority to freeze employee withholding levels where they now are.
