Police keep eye on convenience store after overnight robberies

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington Police are busy this Christmas Eve looking for suspects in armed robberies early this morning. They say they are paying close attention to convenience stores.

Early this morning, police received two separate armed robbery calls from two different Handee Hugo's gas stations in Wilmington.

Around 1 a.m., police responded to the Handee Hugo's at 3706 Shipyard Blvd. An employee said two men entered the store, one with a shotgun and demanded cash.

Then, about an hour later, another hold up at the Handee Hugo's at 425 North College Road. This time, an employee said a man approached her with his hand in his sweatshirt pocket and ordered her to clean out the register into a bag.

Detectives are not sure whether the robberies are related.

Anyone with information is asked to call Wilmington Police.
