WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Today was the first day back from Christmas break for New Hanover County Schools, but students at one school were welcomed back with a threat to their campus.
Hoggard principal Eric Pfirman said around 2 p.m., a staff member received an e-mail containing a threat against the school. Administrators put the school into alert mode. Classes were not interrupted, but students could not leave their classrooms, and all exterior doors were locked while detectives searched the campus.
After about 45 minutes, deputies determined the email was a hoax and things were back to normal.
Investigators say they do have leads on who sent that email.
