KANSAS CITY, MO (AP) - Andy Reid has been introduced as the new coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, one week after he was fired following 14 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Reid was joined by Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt and several other team officials at a packed news conference at Arrowhead Stadium. Reid takes over for Romeo Crennel, who joined Reid and five other NFL coaches in losing their jobs last Monday.
Reid took the Eagles to the Super Bowl and won 130 games over his career. But things had soured the past couple seasons and he was dismissed after going 4-12.
He takes over a team that went 2-14, matching the worst finish in Chiefs history. That means the Chiefs pick first in the NFL draft for the first time.
ORCHARD PARK, NY (AP) - It's official: Doug Marrone is the Buffalo Bills' new coach.
The franchise released the announcement via text message on Monday. A news conference at the team's facility will follow.
Hired after going 25-25 in four seasons at Syracuse, Marrone agreed to the contract on Sunday. The 48-year-old from the Bronx takes over a week after Chan Gailey was fired following three consecutive losing seasons.
Marrone becomes the Bills' fifth coach in 12 years, and inherits a franchise that newly promoted team president Russ Brandon described as having a "tarnished" reputation.
Buffalo's 13-season playoff drought is the NFL's longest active streak, and the team has not had a winning record since 2004, when it finished 9-7.
Marrone is described as a no-nonsense disciplinarian. He has seven seasons of NFL coaching experience as an assistant.
HAMPTON, VA (AP) - Deron Powers had 19 points and Du'Vaughn Maxwell added a double-double as Hampton held off James Madison for a 69-65, nonconference victory Monday night.
Hampton (3-10) led 30-29 at halftime but used runs of 9-0 and 11-2 to build a 14 point lead, 61-47, with 4:20 to play.
The Dukes (7-8) responded with six straight points as part of a 14-2 run to cut the deficit to 63-61 with 2:04 left. Devon More led the way with eight points during that stretch.
Hampton quickly re-extended the lead to 67-61, and James Madison never pulled closer than three again.
Maxwell had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
James Madison shot 40.8 percent (30 of 49) from the field but connected on just 27.3 percent (6 of 22) from 3-point range. The Dukes did finish with 14 second-chance points - Hampton didn't have any.
Rayshawn Goins led James Madison with 16 points.
HEMPSTEAD, NY (AP) - Stevie Mejia scored 17 points, including a game-winning layup with 6 seconds remaining, as Hofstra beat Georgia State 52-50 to snap an eight-game losing streak in its Colonial Athletic Association opener Monday night.
Hofstra (4-10) led 50-46 following Jordan Allen's jumper with 2:25 left. Georgia State's Devonta White cut the lead to two with a layup with 2:13 left, and then James Vincent converted a put-back for the Panthers (6-10, 1-2) to tie it 50-all with 17 seconds remaining.
After Mejia's go-ahead jumper, White missed on a 3-point try with 1 second left, and Allen grabbed the rebound as the buzzer sounded.
Hofstra led 37-25 when Georgia State launched a 13-2 run to pull within 39-38, but didn't catch Hofstra until Vincent's layup.
R.J. Hunter led the Panthers with 13 points, but hit just 1 of 8 from 3-point range as Georgia State made only 2 of 20 long-range tries.
