Wilmington grandma wins $200,000 in lottery

UPDATE: Education Lottery to review award of $200,000 prize to Wilmington winner

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A Wilmington grandmother says winning $200,000 in the lottery means she will be able to buy a house and provide for her three grandchildren's future. Lisa Priola also plans to give to causes she cares about, including paralyzed veterans' care and cancer research.

Priola, whose favorite game is Carolina Cash 5, bought two Power 7s tickets after the cashier at the Wilco on Gordon Road suggested she give the new game a try.

"When I got home, I scratched them, and I screamed," Priola said in a news release from the NC Education Lottery. "I said, 'This can't be.'"

Priola, who is originally from Brooklyn, NY, lost her husband four years ago to lung cancer. She moved to Wilmington to be close to her sister and "make a new start."

After state and federal withholdings, Priola received a check for $136,001.

"What else can I say?" Priola said as she collected her winnings today. "It's great."
