Former trooper charged in Christmas Eve shooting

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A former Highway Patrol trooper is charged with two felonies in a Christmas Eve shooting in Bladen County.

Herbert Paul Weissinger is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Investigators say Thomas David Daughety, Jr., 42, was shot in the abdomen, and his 62-year-old father, Thomas David Daughety, Sr., was shot in the hand. Investigators say both men were shot with a handgun after a dispute over trespassing.

The District Attorney's Office says the case is likely to be presented to the grand jury next month.
