Perhaps a better way to honor Dr. King's legacy would be to initiate activities in every black church and community center to call attention to and combat the rising tide of young black male violence.
In this past year, we have seen terrible instances of young black males murdering a Chinese delivery man (and sitting down and eating the food he has just delivered) and a Cape Fear College student (one female was a part of this attack) senselessly murdered in a downtown parking lot.
Dr. King would be appalled at the level of violence of young black males in downtown Wilmington. It's a serious problem that needs to be addressed immediately by the black community. Only we (I am a black father of two sons) can help stem the tide.
