Tickets running out for Southport 'Safe Haven' party

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) -- Tickets are running out for Southport's celebration for the premier of the movie "Safe Haven" that was shot in around the Brunswick County city last summer.

Organizers say only about 100 of 300 tickets are still on sale for a special first screening of "Safe Haven" on Feb. 14, the day the movie opens nationwide. The $50 tickets include admission to the 1:30 p.m. matinee at Surf Cinema on Long Beach Road, a commemorative T-shirt and an after-party at the Southport Community Center that evening.

Southport Tourism and Economic Development Director Cindy Brochure says the city hopes to celebrate the opening of the movie all weekend long. Brochure says the city gave her $14,500 to plan and fund the event.

"The whole town will be buzzing," Brochure said. "We're hoping it'll bring people in from all over."

Brochure says Surf Cinemas will show "Safe Haven," which is based on the Nicholas Sparks book and stars Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel, on multiple screens throughout the weekend.

Tickets to the special premier celebration on Valentine's Day can be purchased at the Southport Visitor's Center at 203 E. Bay Street. They are available only to Southport residents for the rest of today. Starting tomorrow, any tickets that are left are available to the general public. Call (910) 457-7927 for more information.
