Local response to president's second term

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- In Wilmington thousands took to the streets to honor Dr. Martin Luther King. We asked members of the crowd what they hope for as the president's took the oath of office.

"I for one am completely excited, sorry that I couldn't make it there in person," Francine Rich said. "I think that the country decided to give him a second chance to carry out the things he promised in the first term. So I am excited about him carrying out exactly what he started to do."

Some we spoke with are happy about the presidents new term but hoping to avoid the problems of the last one.

"I hope in general that they will all start to compromise a little better together," Jayne Stasser said.

"One thing I hope for, I hope Republicans will work with Obama this term more than they did last term, so they can accomplish more," Paige Ahhee said.

Others say during this term, the president needs to shift his focus.

"Last term, he did pull out of the war, but I feel a lot of things that he wanted weren't for the betterment of the nation," Jonathan Brody said.
