WPD investigate overnight shooting


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A robbery could have turned deadly overnight in Wilmington. A 19-year-old man was shot after three men in hooded sweatshirts stormed into his apartment.

Wilmington Police responded a few minutes before midnight to a report of a shooting on the 4300 block of Crimson Court. Once inside, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana and and found a 19-year-old man who had been shot. He was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The other two occupants of the apartment told officers that there had been a knock at the door. When the roommate answered, three men rushed through the door. All three were wearing hooded sweatshirts with hoods tied tightly around their faces.

According to the victims, all were armed with handguns. The intruders ransacked the house and on their way out fired a shot that hit the victim. The hooded men reportedly stole marijuana, a small amount of cash and two cell phones.

The case is currently under investigation.
