Fire crews put out hot spots after flames engulf multiple buildings

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- New Hanover County fire crews worked to put out all hotspots hours after a fire sparked at an office building on Murrayville Road Monday night.

The fire happened some time after 11:30 p.m. Monday night in the 6200 Block of Murrayville Road, and crews closed part of the road, and then re-opened it, early Tuesday morning.

Fire fighters, sheriff's deputies, and EMS all responded to the scene, as multiple structures were on fire on the property.

A building, separated by a breezeway, with a garage attached were both engulfed in flames. Construction equipment and a boat were also burned in the fire.

Battalion Chief Smith says the buildings were used for business and storage purposes, and that no one was hurt in the fire.

Several crews were on the scene for more than 3 hours, and fire fighters continued to keep the smoke contained well into Tuesday morning.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
