New Hanover, Pender Counties team up on new sewer project

New Hanover and Pender County could soon be teaming up on a new sewer project. Monday New Hanover County commissioners signed a resolution to build a wastewater treatment plant on the counties' border. The idea is to encourage development in the area. New Hanover County Commissioner Bill Caster said, "It will open that whole area up for commercial and residential development in Pender County which is stymied now because they don't have wastewater." The counties would share the cost of the new treatment plant. Officials will meet in Burgaw Monday night to finalize the agreement.
