I was at the legislature that day.
A couple of points. He's looking for the state to kick in about 25% of the projected renovation costs. Not certain how much he is seeking from Charlotte or Mecklenberg County. I think even with their contributions, he's still putting up 50% of the costs.
He's not seeking support for routine maintenance costs.
To my knowledge, he's not had to hold out his hand for government money. I believe it was his cash and borrowing ability which built the stadium.
Far different from the "chuckles" endorsed proposal which would have had the city foot the entire bill as well as maintenance costs.
There's a big difference between a lower Class A minor league baseball team and an NFL franchise.
Now if he was smart, he would get the stadium named as one of those foriegn investment projects. Then just get 500 Chinese and third world wealth holders from places like Iraq abd Pakistan and he has his $250 million with no borrowing.
Before I take a position, I'd like to know how much Charlotte and Mecklenberg County are kicking in.
He's still putting a fair number of his personal dollars on the line. Unlike the baseball proponents who effectively were trying to do one of those no money down real estate deals in which others assumed the risk while they pocketed the profit.
