SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) -- Southport is getting ready for its moment in the spotlight when "Safe Haven" hits theaters nationwide Thursday. Some folks in the community, though, will get a sneak peak at the Nicholas Sparks book turned movie a couple days early.
Surf Cinema in Southport will host a pre-screening of the movie Tuesday at 7 p.m. "Safe Haven," which stars Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel, is set in Southport and shot in and around Southport last summer.
Cindy Brochure of the Southport Visitors Center says about 500 people have been invited for the special pre-screening, including city employees, Southport volunteers, members of the film's crew and residents directly impacted by the production, including people who's homes were used for shoots.
