I agree on this one; no state support. If the City and County, which benefit most directly from the team, want to ante up, that's their call. They do have some chips on the table.
2 Points:
A. if the article I read was accurate, the repairs and upgrades are being called for by the NFL which inspected the stadium at some point in the past 12 months. This is not a case of adding a bunch of revenue generating sky boxes.
B. He made it clear, he was not going to move the team. There was never any threat to do so.
Another point, I'm not certain if this is a request for grants or direct funding. I saw a portion of the proposal; and each participant in the total funding pool is in for 15 years.
He does note he intends to sell the team prior to his death. He's in his 70s; not certain if a sale can be limited to someone who will keep the team in Charlotte. I think that was the committment required for the last sale of the Redskins. The buyer agreed not to move the team.
