HT does offer a better variety & better quality of fresh produce , more so than other retail super markets, and customers are charged more as well. Especially the "Organic Produces". In the end - all customers are only going to be willing to pay: "so much" - thus; the produce spoils, rots & is eventually discarded at a loss for HT !
Overhead is the culprit of most grocery store chains having to sell out, or file under Chapter 13. Dead Overhead -- items that merely sit on the shelves for months, anongst the vast abundances of non-grocery store items.
Harris Teeter is not a: Walmart Super Store, SAM's, or K-Mart , as they may want to make people believe, where you can buy everything needed under one roof. Like the now defunct Winn Dixie Stores and others -- HT is now learning the hard way -- try and sell out now or forclose.
