Haters are gonna hate... Having lived here for the better part of the last decade and will say there are far more pretentious cities than Charlotte (Atlanta anyone?). Charlotte is a growing city and while it doesn't offer the amenities of say NYC or Miami, it has its share of culture, great food and plenty of things to do. As far as the team support goes... Have you paid attention to the fact that the Panthers and Bobcats have each had ONE playoff appearance since 2008? And 4 total since the turn of the century? Also, this bid is for 2024... which is uh, 11 years from now. Plenty of time to build the infrastructure, hotels, etc. All that said, I doubt Charlotte would get the Olympics. Kind of hope they don't actually. Olympics usually are more trouble than they are worth.
