With Southport being a nice, little quaint village, it's just too full of a bunch of whiney-butt retirees with nothing better to do than criticize and make up crap to complain about. The "historical district" is lined with homes adorned with vinyl and aluminum siding (now that's historical, huh?). They don't want any sort of business around them that may make a little money, no commerce and can hardly keep the mom&pop shops they still have open. They "worry" about park benches, where a chair sits outside of a business and where someone may or may not enjoy an ice cream cone. Who REALLY wants to deal with and manage that sort of nonsense? Let 'em have that BS to themselves, just like the last guy said.
Why would anyone even want that post?
