WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Azalea Festival is almost here, and kids are already talking about their favorite part of it all through artwork.
Elementary and middle schoolers submitted 286 masterpieces to the Azalea Festival Children's Art Contest. The festival recognized 32 of the young artists this morning.
Margaret Dill's art landed her a first place prize. She'll present it to Gov. Pat McCrory.
"I think riding on the float and meeting the governor are the two top things that I'm excited about," Dill said. "I'm just excited about winning."
April 5 kicks off the first day the art will be on display at the Community Arts Center in downtown Wilmington.
The two first place winners will present their pieces to Gov. McCrory.
