...evidently made quite a few arrests. Did you truly appreciate the manner in which the justice system allowed those you witnessed performing crimes go back to the streets to commit more crime?
My father was a WWII and Korean War veteran. He provided public service as a police officer for many years afterward. He described how criminals were set free over and over again by the courts. That isn't anything unusual, you can find thousands of those here in NHC, but it is none-the-less very frustrating to arresting officers.
The "day-in-court" thing is important, but it has been trampled by the slick-willie attorneys and puts the public at risk. Although this system is fairer than most, it isn't by any means perfect. The bad part is, it's getting worse all the time.
My father was never an "ex-cop". When he retired, he was a "former police officer". The only "ex's" were the ones that were fired in disgrace.
