WILMINGTON, NC (StarNewsOnline.com) -- The search for the driver who might have been thrown from a van that crashed Monday night along River Road in New Hanover County was called off shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday, N.C. Highway Patrol 1st Sgt. Troy Pope said.

River Road, which had been closed from Cathay Road toward Carolina Beach during the search, was reopened.

Pope said the driver of the work van was headed toward Carolina Beach on River Road about 9 p.m. Monday when the van hit a culvert, flipped over in a driveway at 6708 River Road and landed upside down in a marsh.
