PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY)-- The man accused of a deadly shooting last night in Pender County turned himself in this afternoon.
Pender County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the 911 call at a home off US 17 in Hampstead just after 9 p.m. Tuesday. When Deputies arrived on the scene, they found the body of Donnie Lee Pridgen. They say Pridgen appeared to have been shot several times.
"Potentially the shooting occurred inside and outside of the residence," Pender County Sheriff Carson Smith said.
Investigators believe Vincent Smith fired the shots that killed Pridgen. They say after the shooting, Smith ran away.
Detective are not yet sure of the motive, but they say Pridgen was Smith's sister's fiance.
WWAY talked to two of Smith's neighbors, who were both upset over what happened. One neighbor said he was shocked Smith was capable of doing something like this.
Investigators say Smith had a friend contact the sheriff's office to arrange a time and a place to turn himself in Wednesday afternoon. Investigators say Smith surrendered peacefully at 1:15 p.m. He is being held without bond in the Pender County Jail.
