WILMINGTON, NC (StarNewsOnline.com) -- A Wilmington woman sentenced to life without parole for the 2006 ambush killing of a 26-year-old man will appear in New Hanover County Superior Court Friday morning for a new sentencing hearing.

In June, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that laws mandating life sentences for juveniles convicted of murder violate the Eighth Amendment ban on cruel and unusual punishment.

Lakendra Sharell Grady, now 24, was two months shy of her 18th birthday when a Wilmington jury found her guilty and sentenced to her life without parole in the killing of Pervis Owens at his North 10th Street home on Jan. 23, 2006.
