BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Law enforcement agencies didn't hesitate to kick off the "Booze it & Lose it" campaign early this holiday weekend. The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office set up the first check point of the campaign on US 74 near Leland late Friday night.

Before officers could even set up, an impaired driver wrecked into the back of another vehicle heading westbound on US 74. The Sheriff's Office said it got five impaired drivers off the road within the first 45 minutes. They said they were able to be more efficient with the help of the BATMobile, a new Breath Alcohol Testing Unit.

"We are just trying to make sure the roads are safe," First Sgt. William Caulk said. "Hopefully if folks can see that we are out here now, maybe for the rest of the weekend they will think twice before getting behind the wheel."

Law enforcement agencies across the state will be in full force this weekend for Saint Patrick's Day.
