As a retired code official, I did not take Guest1946's comment as negative. Many older structures are vulnerable to fire from many sources. It could be faulty electrical connection or other such unfortunate circumstance. Recently there have been house fires in the area due to human error.
All of these events are unfortunate and I also share your thoughts for the difficulties facing the business owners.
Telling someone to take the road out is counter-productive and goes against one of the great freedoms we have as Americans. Are you proposing closing State, County, and Town borders?
