I have been a Brunswick County resident for over half my life. That equates to over 35 years. I have found that any time someone has an idea, opinion, or mentions anything that goes against the local mindset, the standard comeback is basically to leave the area. 3 major fires in a place as small as Calabash is extremely unusual. Has Shallotte had this problem? How about Southport, Leland? Certainly the firefighters only respond after the fact, so unless there is a renegade volunteer setting the fires, surely no one can blame them. But somehow I still feel that when somebody gets very defensive, perhaps a red flag should go up.
