N.C.'s unemployment rate rises to 4.9 percent in September

RALEIGH (AP) -- North Carolina's unemployment rate rose slightly in September, climbing to 4.9 percent. The state's unemployment rate has stayed between 4.5 percent and 5 percent for the past year. It reached the low point in February and March, grew to 4.8 percent in April and May, and then to 4.9 percent in June. It peaked in July at 5 percent before dropping to 4.8 percent in August. State labor officials say the labor force increased slightly, from 4.54 million people in August to 4.56 million. (Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
