Another alternative would be to fund the initial purchase of the equipment needed to dredge and pump the inlets and beaches.
Jetties and groins are used in New England extensively but they still have to re-nourish sporadically. New Jersey had to re-build the beaches after Sandy so groins and jetties are not an end all but they certainly do reduce the "maintenance" dredging that seems to happen all too frequently here.
But Mike is passing out monies appropriated by the ENTIRE congress and both Republicans and Democrats take great pride and pleasure at handing out big checks to their constituents at home. They also like it when company's in their districts get big government contracts. Mike is doing his job as the others are, unfortunately.
