Easter weekend traffic


NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Bridge work could mean slower traffic around Carolina Beach for Easter weekend, but it looks like you might be able to move a little faster if you're trying to get to Wrightsville Beach.

All four lanes on the Wrightsville Beach draw bridge opened just in time for Easter weekend but, unfortunetly, that's not the case in Carolina Beach. Snow's Cut Bridge has only two lanes open, but Carolina Beach Police Chief Kurt Bartley says they have people ready to help with the traffic delays.

"We have already spoken with the Sheriff's Office and I have people ready to man the intersections to allow the traffic to flow as best as possible for the weekend," Bartley says.

With Easter weekend approaching, businesses around the Wrightsville Beach draw bridge are happy to hear the bridge is back open.

"We are so excited for Easter weekend, here at the Causeway and I'm sure everywhere else on Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach. We can tell right now business has picked up tremendously, especially today," Audrey Molo a Causeway Cafe employee says.

You can also turn left again on and off of Airlie Road. A Wrightsville Beach Board of Alderman member says he thinks traffic will be heavy this weekend because Easter is overlapping with spring breaks.

"Our Police Department because of the restriction in traffic that we had before, actually has a plan worked out, which they've already employed once or twice to deal with the traffic backup," Wrightsville Board of Alderman Bill Sisson says.

The Wrightsville Beach draw bridge will be finished with everything in spring of 2014.

Police Chief Bartley says they are expecting the two lanes at Carolina Beach under construction to be finshed by mid-May.
