Caswell Beach commissioner dies

CASWELL BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- A Caswell Beach town commissioner has died.

Town Administrator Chad Hicks says John W. Bartholomew's wife informed him this morning that Commissioner Bartholomew died late yesterday. His obituary says the 69-year-old died after a battle with cancer.

Bartholomew was in the middle of his first term, having been elected in 2011.

Hicks said commissioners will need to appoint someone to serve out the remainder of Bartholmew's term. An election for the seat will be held in 2015.

Bartholomew is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth ("Betty") King Bartholomew, two sons and five grandsons.

A celebration of Bartholomew's life will be held at Ocean View United Methodist Church on Oak Island Drive at a later date.

Funeral services will be held in his hometown of Drakes Branch, VA, at Lebanon Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Friday with a reception to follow.
