Here's our standard: If all you have is a race and a gender, it's not enough, and we should not just report that. For example, saying police are looking for a black male or a white male does not narrow down the pool of possible suspects, as that vague description fits far too many people.
But if there is more, then we do report it, like if we have a description of height, weight, hair, eyes, clothing, vehicle, etc. For example, in this story, witnesses say it was a white man in a white Jeep. That narrows things down. In the other story, it was a black man driving a white tractor-trailer with a blue logo who turned from Princess Place Drive left onto 23rd Street.
