WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington Police say a man already on probation for a string of break-ins last year tried to kick out the window of a patrol car Friday night.
Officers stopped Justin Hunter Stroupe, 23, in the 900 block of S. 7th Street after a hit and run in the 600 block of Mears Street. They say Stroupe was highly impaired and did not follow the officer's commands to get out of the car. Once got him out of the vehicle, police say Stroupe remained combative until he was subdued and handcuffed.
Once in the officer's cruiser, police say Stroupe attempted to kick out the back window. Police further restrained to keep him from damaging the vehicle.
Police say Stroupe was still resistant. They took him to the hospital for medical clearance and a blood test before booking him in the jail under $3,000 secure bond. He is charged with hit and run, DWI and hinder and delay.
New Hanover County Sheriff's deputies arrested Stroupe in December and eventually connected him to 11 car break-ins in the county. The Department of Corrections website shows he is currently on probation after being convicted in February on four counts of felony breaking and entering.
