FIRST ON 3: Crews find body of missing swimmer

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Search crews have found the body of a swimmer who went missing in the Northeast Cape Fear River near Castle Hayne this afternoon.

New Hanover County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jerry Brewer says a 43-year-old man tried to swim across the river from Riverside Park some time after noon and didn't make it. Brewer said the man was with family, who called 911.

Investigators say the man may have been drinking before trying to swim across the river.

Deputies used two boats wot sonar to help with the search.
