RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Former legislative colleagues from both political parties are remembering state Sen. Ed Jones as a man of dignity who inspired loyalty and cared about education. The Senate and House passed a resolution Monday honoring the Halifax County Democrat, who died in December several months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was 62 years old and had been a 30-year state trooper, former police chief of Enfield, and later its mayor before joining the House in 2005. Jones moved to the Senate in 2007 and served there until his death, which occurred one month after he was elected to his fourth term. Rep. Michael Wray of Northampton County says Jones always emphasized family and taught him to be a better family man. (Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
