Brunswick Co. school leaders approve change in school start times

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Elementary school students in Brunswick county will start their school day an hour later than high school and middle school students in the 2013-14 school year.

After receiving input from the community and much discussion, the Board of Education made the decision for the change. A community survey showed 54 percent of respondents in favor of secondary schools starting the school day first with 46 percent favoring elementary school beginning first.

Waccamaw School will start at the same time as secondary schools in 2013-14. Brunswick County Academy and Early College High School will keep their current start time.

Transportation Director Bobby Taylor and staff will now begin working on the revision of routes for the new school year.

North Brunswick High 7:45-2:45
South Brunswick High 7:45-2:45
West Brunswick High 7:45-2:45
Leland Middle School 7:55-2:55
South Brunswick MS/Cedar Grove MS 7:55-2:55
Shallotte Middle School 8:00-3:00
All Elementary 8:45-3:45
